Just like an archaeologist

The artist decided to make a documentary film. She conducted a detailed study for this. With the help of a Vietnamese translator, she received a second complete translation, as the author did not know Vietnamese. The artist converted them into hundreds of paintings daily, and then into the third and fourth translations. The scene in Ran’s diary, which became clear while drawing, was finally embellished perfectly in the sixth translation. She used the method of archaeologically piecing together scenes from shattered diaries to translate the diary, so the artist named this process archaeological research.

작가는 다큐멘터리 영화를 제작하기로 결정하였다. 그녀는 이를 위해 상세한 연구를 진행했다. 작가가 베트남어를 모르기 때문에 베트남인 번역자 부티 투완의 도움으로 두번째로 보완 완성된 번역본을 받았다. 작가는 이를일일히 수백장의 그림으로 전환했고 세번째, 네번째 번역으로 전환해갔다. 그림을 그리면서 명확해진 란의 일기의 장면은 최종적으로 여섯번째의 번역본으로 완벽하게 윤색됐다. 일기를 번역하는데 산산조각 난 일기의 장면을 고고학적으로 짜 맞춰 조합하는 방법을 사용했으므로 작가는 이 과정을 고고학적 연구로 이름 지었다.
