Context: A creative performance staged by adding choreographic elements to a script created by interpreting the diary of migrant woman Tran Thanh Lan and adding a new fictional character. It is also the starting point of the Lan’s Diary project.

Introduction
“Lan’s diary”, an experimental theatre, shows how painful and unstable life a Vietnam woman Lan lived in Korea where understanding of other cultures lacks and paternalism is prevalent through her diary that she had written before she died. By doing so, the theatre tries to tell stories of migrant women who died after they came to Korea. Diverse instruments such as music, performance, objet, video, and recording are used in the theatre but it will not show any images of ‘oppressed persons’ such as ‘poor woman’ or ‘victim.’ Rather, ‘Ran’s diary’ discloses how ‘fantasy of men’ and ‘fantasy of women’ are entangled with each other under anti social system, ‘marriage through international brokerage like human trafficking,’ in Korean society.

Synopsis
Lan, a friend of Chaw, was killed by an accident. However, the police conclude that Ran committed suicide without reasonable investigation and Chaw cannot accept their conclusion. Chaw discovers Lan’s diary while arranging her stuff. After reading her diary, Chaw thinks Lan did not commit suicide. She starts lonely fight for finding out cause of Lan’s death but nobody understands her. After reading Lan’s diary, she finds out that what life Lan had lived before she died. However, unfortunately, Ran stopped writing a diary three days before she died.

작품 내용: 이주여성 쩐탄란의 일기를 해석하고 새로운 가상의 인물을 추가하여 창작한 대본에 안무적 요소를 가미해 무대에 올려진 창작 공연. 란의 일기 프로젝트의 시작점이기도 하다.

‘란의 일기’는 국경을 넘는 여성으로서 한 인간의 존경받지 못한 죽음을 통해 이주의 문제를 풀어내고자 기획됐다. 인신매매성 국제결혼이라는 위험한 장치를 통해 국경을 넘어야 하는 이주여성의 죽음에 관한 보고서 ‘란의 일기’는 가공의 이주여성 란을 통해 문화적 몰이해와 우리만의 가족주의 속에서 고통스럽고 불안한 삶을 살아야 하는 이 시대의 여성의 이야기 한다. 그러나 이주여성을 ‘불쌍한’ 또는 ‘피해자’라는 억압받는 자로서의 표현하지 않는다. 오히려 ‘란의 일기’는 한국 사회에서 ‘남자의 환상’과 ‘여자의 환상’ 이 어떻게 ‘인신매매성 국제결혼 중개업을 통한 혼인’ 이라는 반사회적 장치 안에 혼돈 상태로 뒤엉켜있는지 성인의 시선으로 진실되게 풀어내려 한다.

줄거리: 차우의 친구 이주여성 란이 사고에 의해 사망했다. 경찰은 정확한 수사 없이 란의 죽음을 자살로 간주하고, 차우는 이를 받아들일 수 없다. 란의 짐을 정리하다 우연히 일기를 발견하게 된 차우는 란의 죽음이 자살이 아니라고 확신한다. 차우는 란의 죽음의 원인을 찾기 위해 외로운 싸움을 시작하지만 이런 마음을 받아 주는 사람은 아무도 없다. 란의 일기를 읽으며 란이 죽기 전에 어떤 생활을 했는지 알게 된다. 그러나 안타깝게도 일기는 란의 죽음 삼일 전에 멈춰있다.
