Context: A creative performance staged by adding choreographic elements to a script created by interpreting the diary of migrant woman Tran Thanh Lan and adding a new fictional character. It is also the starting point of the Lan’s Diary project.

Introduction
Lan’s Diary (2011) is an experimental media performance and the starting point of Park Kyong Ju’s long-term Lan’s Diary Project. Developed from Park’s reading of the diary left by Vietnamese migrant woman Tran Thanh Lan, the work combines scripted theatre with choreography, sound, objects, video, and recorded voice to translate a private trace into a public form.

Rather than reproducing familiar images of the “oppressed victim,” Lan’s Diary examines the social machinery that produces such deaths—how the fantasies and desires of men and women become entangled within a violent system of brokerage-based transnational marriage, akin to trafficking. The performance follows Chaw, who finds Lan’s diary after her death and begins an isolated search for what happened, confronting the limits of investigation and the silence that surrounds the case—while the diary itself ends three days before Lan’s death

Synopsis
Lan, a friend of Chaw, was killed by an accident. However, the police conclude that Ran committed suicide without reasonable investigation and Chaw cannot accept their conclusion. Chaw discovers Lan’s diary while arranging her stuff. After reading her diary, Chaw thinks Lan did not commit suicide. She starts lonely fight for finding out cause of Lan’s death but nobody understands her. After reading Lan’s diary, she finds out that what life Lan had lived before she died. However, unfortunately, Ran stopped writing a diary three days before she died.

작품 내용: 란의 일기〉(2011)는 박경주의 장기 프로젝트 〈란의 일기 프로젝트〉의 출발점이 되는 실험적 미디어 공연이다. 베트남 이주여성 쩐탄란이 남긴 일기를 바탕으로, 대본에 안무적 요소를 결합하고 음악·오브제·영상·녹음된 목소리 등 다양한 매체를 엮어 ‘사적인 기록’을 ‘공적 발화’의 형식으로 번역한다.

이 작품은 이주여성을 ‘불쌍한 피해자’ 이미지로 재현하기보다, 인신매매성 국제결혼 중개라는 반사회적 장치 속에서 ‘남자의 환상’과 ‘여자의 환상’이 어떻게 뒤엉키며 폭력과 죽음의 조건을 만들어내는지 드러낸다. 이야기의 중심에는 란의 죽음을 ‘자살’로 처리한 결론을 받아들이지 못한 인물 차우가 있으며, 차우는 일기를 발견한 뒤 란의 죽음의 원인을 추적하지만 아무도 그의 질문에 응답하지 않는다. 그리고 일기는 란이 죽기 3일 전에서 멈춰 있다

줄거리: 차우의 친구 이주여성 란이 사고에 의해 사망했다. 경찰은 정확한 수사 없이 란의 죽음을 자살로 간주하고, 차우는 이를 받아들일 수 없다. 란의 짐을 정리하다 우연히 일기를 발견하게 된 차우는 란의 죽음이 자살이 아니라고 확신한다. 차우는 란의 죽음의 원인을 찾기 위해 외로운 싸움을 시작하지만 이런 마음을 받아 주는 사람은 아무도 없다. 란의 일기를 읽으며 란이 죽기 전에 어떤 생활을 했는지 알게 된다. 그러나 안타깝게도 일기는 란의 죽음 삼일 전에 멈춰있다.
