Artist’s notes

I was invited as a participating artist in a jointly planned exhibition by Ssamzie Space and Tokyo Wondersite. The curator asked me if I had any ideas for a new work while suggesting that I exhibit my campaign performance work. I wondered when Japan’s next election would be, and I found out that the exhibition period in Tokyo coincided with the local election period in Japan. After researching information about the size of Japanese election posters and the design of election posters in advance, I planned to make fake election posters. I went to Tokyo just in time for the publicity period for the local elections and attached the fake election posters I had prepared in advance to the election bulletin board. And after taking a documentary picture of this, the fake poster was immediately removed from the bulletin board. At the Wondersight Exhibition in Tokyo, these archival photos were printed out and exhibited. It is illegal to affix anything to the government’s official election bulletin board. This action was very risky, but fortunately nothing happened.- Park Kyong Ju 2004

작가 노트

쌈지스페이스와 동경 원더사이트의 공동 기획 전시회에 참여작가로 초대 받았다. 기획자는 나에게 선거유세 퍼포먼스 작업을 전시할 것을 제안하면서 새로운 작품에 대한 아이디어가 있는지 물었다. 나는 혹시 일본의 다음 선거가 언제인지 물었는데, 일본 동경에서 전시회가 열리는 기간과 일본 지방선거 기간이 맞물려 있는 것을 알게됐다. 나는 사전에 일본 선거포스터의 사이즈와 선거벽보 디자인 등에 대한 정보를 조사한 후 가짜 선거포스터를 만들기로 계획하였다. 지방선거 홍보 기간에 맞춰서 동경으로 갔고 미리 준비한 가짜 선거 포스터를 선거 홍보물 게시판에 부착했다. 그리고 이에 대한 기록 사진을 촬영하고 바로 가짜 포스터를 게시판에서 떼어냈다. 동경 원더사이트 전시회에서는 이 기록 사진을 출력해 전시했다. 정부의 공식적인 선거 게시판에 무언가를 부착하는 것은 불법이다. 이 행동은 매우 위험했지만 다행스럽게도 아무 일도 발생하지 않았다. -박경주 2005년
